How did you become a zookeeper?
I started working here part-time, but I’d already worked here with my family, who have a long history in the Zoo.

How long have you been working in Dublin Zoo?
10 years

What kind of animals do you take care of?
Elephants and apes such as the gorillas and the orang-utans.

Which are your favourite animals in the Zoo?
It’s too close to call, I really love both the gorillas and the elephants.

Do you have any pets at home?
Fish.

Can you tell us one of your most exciting moments in the Zoo?
The birth of the first elephant born in Ireland, everybody was so excited, and relieved when it went so well, it seemed Dina was pregnant forever!

What do you love most about your job?
The animals and working outdoors..

What’s the most difficult thing about your work?
When an animal you're looking after dies it can be very hard. But you have to remember you still have to look after the rest of them.

When you’re not working in the zoo, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
I love football, boxing and most sports. I also love travelling and seeing animals in the wild.
